Speech and Language Therapy Services
Yasemin Tulpar, RSLP, MSc Speech Language Pathology
Growing up in a busy bilingual, bicultural household shaped my perception of language and communication from an early age. Family conversations switched back and forth between English and Turkish and I learned quickly that language is more than just words--that it encompasses tone, volume, gesture, facial expression and much more.
In school, I became fascinated with studying the development of language and communication. I completed a Master's degree in Linguistics specializing in child language development with a particular focus on bilingual children. I went on to work in the area of Addiction and Mental Health research, helping to evaluate and improve delivery of frontline services across Alberta.
I learned about supporting vulnerable populations and met wonderful people, but I missed working with children. This led me to the field of Speech Language Pathology. During my Master's degree, I worked for Edmonton Public Schools, in long term care facilities around Edmonton, and with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in Australia. Upon graduating, I joined Edmonton Catholic Schools multidisciplinary team where I supported children in early learning classrooms around the city.
I have worked with children and families from a variety of backgrounds with diverse communication needs. I am passionate about helping children grow their communication skills in a fun, safe environment, while offering parents the skills and knowledge to help their children at home.
